The BAGAMOYO 20th General Chapter officially closed

At the end of a Mass presided over by the new Superior General, Fr John Fogarty and an interesting African rite of passage, Fr Fogarty declared officially closed the 20th General Chapter of Bagamoyo 2012.

It was late afternoon on Saturday July 21 after, in the morning, the chapter assembly had approved the final message to all confreres around the world, then Fr. James Okoye, the theologian of the Chapter, made his “theological” evaluation of this month spent in Bagamoyo and the Superior General formally thanked all who had contributed to the success of this Chapter.

On July 22 Sunday morning, there was also a Eucharist of Thanksgiving and Farewell presided over by Cardinal Pengo of Dar-es-Salaam, followed by a symbolic tree planting in front of the “Stella Maris”. Then the delegates began to scatter and return to their circumscriptions and places of mission.

“Like the Immaculate Heart of Mary, ever docile and available, we wish to continue hearing the great call which gives life to our pilgrimage: “be fervent in the Spirit”. It is with this resolve that we leave Bagamoyo and it is this call which we share with you. “Bagamoyo” means “here we left our heart”: with all the brothers and sisters of our Spiritan family spread throughout the world we renew our willingness to renew our fervor and to serve the Lord of Mission who sends us.” (Final message)
