At the service of the poor and marginalized in over 60 countries in the global North and South, Spiritans support the adoption of the United Nation’s (UN) sustainable development goals at the recently concluded session of the UN General Assembly on the 25th September 2015.
These global goals call for global actions to overcome poverty, banish inequality and work towards the respect and protection of the earth our common home. The goals provide Spiritans and others committed to social justice with a legitimate framework to advocate for specific, measurable, and realistic government policies aimed at eliminating poverty. Living and working at the interface between poverty and human indignity, Spiritans through their JPIC ministries wish to partner with governments, faith-based and civil society organizations to promote these global goals and make them achievable within their 15 years timeline. I request confreres and our friends to join local initiatives in their areas to create awareness about these goals and remind governments of their obligation towards realizing them.
