He was sent to the circumscription of FANO and worked in the parish of Pikine in Dakar (Senegal) until 1998 and then moved to the parish of Noessa Senhora da Ajuda in Guinea-Bissau for the next four years. Returning to Brazil, he worked in Contagem in the town of Minas Gerais (2002-2004). From there he moved to the District of Alto Juruà in the north of Brazil, from 2005 to 2012. He was parish priest of the parish of Nossa Senhora da Aparecida at Cruzeiro do Sul. He taught in the Senior Seminary and at the same time was a member of the council of priests and coordinator of the pastoral work of the diocese. In 2006, he was elected superior of the District of Alto Juruà where he worked until his appointment to Rome in 2012.
