As you are aware, the rebels are now in control of the capital Bangui and the President has fled the country. I spoke on the telephone with the Superior, Fr. Patrick Mbéa, yesterday (Sunday) evening and again this morning. There is
widespread looting in the city and some religious communities have already been attacked and their vehicles and property taken. The confreres at Maison Saint Charles – nine in all – have not been touched so far and were able to celebrate Mass with the Spiritan Sisters living on the property this morning. There is no electricity or water at the moment and the confreres are low on food. All are hoping that the new self-proclaimed head-of-state will make a statement soon and restore order as quickly as possible. We continue to carry our confreres and the people of Central Africa in our thoughts and prayers.
