144 years of Spiritan presence in Bagamoyo

16th July 2012 was a remembrance day for our Spiritan Ancestors who brought the Catholic Faith to East Africa through Bagamoyo 144 years ago. In a colourful ceremony the members of the Spiritan General Chapter and other confreres from the Province of Tanzania Spiritans  were joined at the Cross of Bagamoyo by the faithful of the parish including students from Marian Girls Secondary School. We all went in procession to the cemetery where our ancestors are buried  and the Superior General unveiled a plaque bearing the names of the all the Spiritans and Daughters of Mary buried there. The liturgy that followed was beautifully animated by Marian Girls Secondary School. It was  presided over by Pat J. Ryan a veteran missionary to Tanzania.
