With the Eucharist presided over by Fr. Eric Ngoy, Superior of the Spiritans in Congo Kinshasa and concelebrated by three confreres from the same country, the participants of the General Chapter in Bagamoyo remembered and honoured their 20 confreres (19 Belgians and 1 Dutch) who were murdered in Kongolo, by the governmental troops, the 1rst of January 1962.
The Presider of the celebration remembered the circumstances of their martyrdom, their faithfulness to their faith in Christ and their loyalty to the people they were serving, and emphasized the way they carried out their mission, fervent in Spirit and courageous onto death – a brutal death.
The members of the Spiritan Chapter prayed for the intercession of the Martyrs for their mission today so that they themselves may courageously face our pessimistic world with a fervent spirit as the Martyrs of Kongolo did.
